What is a Shaman?
Shaman are healers who practice a traditional energy medicine. Shaman have been found in indigenous communities throughout the world for millennia. The word Shaman is derived from a Siberian word that means “one who sees in the dark”. Shaman have the capacity to read the energy field, relate it to the issues in a person’s life and negotiate with the spirit world on behalf of the client to shift the cause of the symptoms for improved physical and emotional health and better relationships with others. Shaman are both healer and spiritual guide.
Elizabeth as a Shaman
Elizabeth practices a form of shamanism called the Northern Way, which is based on her own ancestral lineage. This form of shamanism comes from the region now known as Scandinavia but the practice began thousands of years ago, before Christianity reached the region until it’s near extinction at the end of the Viking Age. In modern times, there has been a revival of both shaman practice and the Northern Way. Elizabeth has been taught by many healers from multiple cultural backgrounds including Quechuan, Mayan, Cuban, Native American, Shipibo, Hmong, South Asian, and African. As is true for all shaman, Elizabeth has developed over the last decade her own medicine.
What to expect?
The first part of the session involves a discussion–you will simply sit and talk with Elizabeth about what brings you to her. You will talk about your life, good parts and bad, whatever might have been hard on you during your life. Subjects might be recent events, or memories long-past. The “right” subject and information almost always comes up in this discussion period with Elizabeth for the shifts that you want to make.
The second segment of the session is when Elizabeth will employ her shamanic techniques and tools to observe your energy from within. She will have you lie comfortably on a flat surface, perhaps touch you lightly, but mostly will work on the energy around your body. As your shaman, Elizabeth observes as energies unfold and present themselves during a healing session, and will take actions to align, remove or shift energies as needed. For most people this part of the session is calming, restful, and restorative.
That’s all there is to the shaman session itself; the individual may feel little immediate impact, but the healing has only just begun.
